SUMMARY:3rd Annual Conference of the EERA Joint Program on Energy Systems Integration
DESCRIPTION:Energy Infrastructure Development and the Industrial Transition Please secure your spot here! On October 23, 2025, the Energy Systems Integration Program of the European Energy Research Alliance (EERA) will organize the third Research Meets Policy Conference. DOWNLOAD THE FULL PROGRAM HERE The purpose of this conference is to connect researchers with policy makers, industry, energy companies, network operators and organizations of large and small energy consumers. The Energy Systems Integration Program aims for two-way interaction: bringing research insights into the societal debate on the energy transition and receiving feedback for research in the form of problems to address, potential solutions, empirical information and contacts. The focus of this this year’s conference is how to deal with the interdependencies between the energy transition and the industrial transition. The main decarbonization choices for industry are electrification, hydrogen and/or carbon capture, utilization and storage. The conference will consist of four sessions: Setting the scene: the industrial transition requires a lot of energy, but the energy system needs clarity about industrial demand in order to support investments in renewable generation, back-up power plants and the networks. A hold-up problem is the result, in which both sides are waiting for each other. How do we break through this log jam? System integration of data centers with electricity and heat networks. How to develop this source of extraordinary electricity demand growth in the most sustainable manner? EERA research insights in the interplay between the industry and the energy system. Ensuring industrial competitiveness in a sustainable energy system?! What should be done? What is still unknown and requires research? The full programme with the list of speakers is available here.
